SEATTLE (June 26, 2013) – Nordstrom, Inc., one of the nation’s leading fashion specialty retailers, will celebrate the opening of its newly relocated Glendale store at The Americana at Brand with an evening gala on Tuesday, September 17, 2013. The event, completely underwritten by Nordstrom, is expected to raise more than $75,000 for local charities Ascencia and Hillsides. Nordstrom at The Americana at Brand opens Friday, September 20, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.

Gala attendees will enjoy hors d’oeuvres, dinner and dessert buffets, cocktails, live entertainment, a fall fashion presentation and be among the first to shop the new 135,000 square-foot store. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. Cost to attend is $100 per person. To RSVP or for more information, call (323) 543-2800, ext. 121 or visit (web page goes live July 15).

“We’ve been serving customers in Glendale and the surrounding area for 30 years,” said Brynn Herthel, store manager of Nordstrom Glendale Galleria. “Our opening gala provides us with the opportunity to give back and support the community who has generously supported us for so many years.”

“We are honored to be selected by Nordstrom as a beneficiary of their grand opening gala,” said Natalie Profant Komuro, Ascencia’s Executive Director. “As Nordstrom celebrates its move to a new home, we appreciate their support of Ascencia’s work to house our community’s homeless neighbors.”

Ascencia mobilizes staff, volunteers and community partners to end homelessness in the greater Glendale area, one person, one family at a time. The agency serves over 1200 homeless men, women and children each year through its comprehensive service and housing programs. Initiatives include housing chronically ill and homeless individuals, ending veteran homelessness and rapidly rehousing homeless families. Proceeds from the gala will support Ascencia’s 40 bed shelter for families and single adults. Originally founded in 2006 as PATH Achieve Glendale, Ascencia was named Organization of the Year in 2012 by the Glendale Chamber of Commerce.

“We are excited to be selected as a beneficiary for Nordstrom during our centennial celebration,” said Joe Costa, Hillsides Chief Executive Director. “We are committed to providing our clients with the best possible service and using the funds from this gala to augment it with a therapeutic music and arts program that heals, encourages self-expression, and restore hopes.”

Based in Pasadena, Hillsides is a premier provider dedicated to improving the overall well-being and functioning of vulnerable children, youth, and their families in Los Angeles County. Its vision is to create lasting change in the lives of all at-risk children and youth they serve. The organization provides high quality care, advocacy, and innovative services that promote safe, permanent environments where young people can thrive. With the proceeds from the gala,
Hillsides will raise funds for the expressive arts, including therapeutic programs incorporating art, music, stage productions, creative writing, photography, and poetry writing, to benefit the children and families they serve.
