Advancing Ascencia Capital Campaign (2012-2015)
We did it! Thanks to all of our Advancing Ascencia donors, we successfully concluded our capital campaign on December 31, 2015 , raising $7.79 million and exceeding our original goal of $7.45 million!
In 2012, Ascencia embarked on its first ever capital campaign, Advancing Ascencia. The campaign’s goal was to raise $7.45 million over three years to:
- secure a new and improved permanent home for Ascencia’s Access Center and Emergency Housing program;
- add 9 units of permanent supportive housing for formerly chronically homeless households;
- increase the number of homeless people served
- expand our reach to neighboring communities including Burbank and the Northeast Los Angeles area.
- deepen the continuum of care for long-term success, such as adding financial literacy curriculum adapted to the needs of homeless and extremely low-income people.
The campaign has enabled us to accomplish the following:
Ownership of our facility. For years we faced the uncertainty of rising rents and as south Glendale has undergone new development, we wanted to secure our location. Owning our facility has saved $90,000 per year in leasing costs.
Design that suits our needs. The new facility has better privacy for our Emergency Housing residents, a brilliant commercial kitchen for our Guest Chef volunteers, an airy dining room and soothing paint schemes to help reduce client stress and facilitate a productive working environment.
Build our team. Strong service delivery depends on a strong staff. The campaign has enabled us to hire a Program Director and Hospital Liaison, to manage dramatic changes in how we do business, working closely with local hospitals and our partner agencies in the San Fernando Valley and Northeast Los Angeles.
Our Executive Director Natalie Profant Komuro and our Campaign Leadership, along with our staff and clients, would like to thank all of our Advancing Ascencia donors for their generous support!
