Want to do something really cool? It involves roaming the streets really late in the evening or really early in the morning. But it isn’t mere random roaming; it is with clipboard in hand, scoping neighborhoods for homeless people.
I’ve done five variations of homeless counts and surveying over the years and I highly recommended it.
If you are in Glendale:
- City of Glendale is looking for volunteers for the homeless count! January 27, 6 – 10 p.m. and January 28 4:30 a.m. – 7:30 a.m.
- MANDATORY TRAINING FOR VOLUNTEERS: Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 1 p.m. at 141 N. Glendale Ave., Room 118, Perkins Community Room. Parking is available on the corner of Wilson across from Bank of America.
- Please see the City of Glendale website for more information: http://bit.ly/Glendale2015HC
If you are in Los Angeles County:
- Please go to the L.A. Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) website for more information: http://www.lahsa.org/homelesscount.asp.
I want to especially encourage volunteers in Eagle Rock, Glassell Park and Highland Park to sign up with the LAHSA count.
To volunteer for the Burbank Homeless Count, please download LAHSA’s flyer.
The information gathered from these counts is very helpful for our planning, so please sign up and share this information with your friends! And then share your experiences here or on our Facebook page.Thank you! Natalie P. Komuro Executive Director
